beautiful day
a couple months ago, I went wandering around reynolda, looking for spring..
well, the rummage sale is almost on.. we've been sorting and pricing all week (which is actually a pretty interesting exercise in marketing.. somehow the pool floats and bicycles wind up being priced in the same range.. how do you decide what someone is willing to pay for a stairmaster, circa 1988..)
just in case you're thinking of heading out the the annex for the main event..
some of the stuff up for grabs:
lacross sticks
water ski's
snow ski's (I've got my name on a pair!!)
ping pong tables (3)
foosball table
pool table
golf clubs (wish I knew something about golf clubs, there are probably some really good deals)
ab roller
overused basketball
motercycle helmets (3)

good news for the Urban Tracker... new job opportunity just up the road:
NASA's Roadkill RoundupSGS Roads and Grounds has organized a "road kill posse" with support from the NASA Shuttle and Environmental Programs.
(as seen on nasa watch)
-
so how many times to you get to say that, but today it happens to be true..
pat green, tonight, and look at the lineup coming ti zig's:
05.10: teddy geiger (as seen on love monkey)
05.12: donna the buffalo
06.03: dwight yokum
06.07: sister hazel
07.05: perpetual groove
in other words, a little bit of everything, and just enough to fill my live music cravings for the next few months..
-
..Seems like you need a little hill country,
A Little backroads driving,
little bit of the old top down..

Yeah, everybody gotta get away sometime,
Forget about yourself for awhile,
Seems to me that all you need
is a ragtop car to ride with me,
Ok,
alright,
carry on..
some friends are having to deal with some hard stuff this week,
which has been a decent dose of perspective..
I will run around busy and tired and worn out..
but whatever goes on in my week, can't compare,
and my best words and thoughts can't help them..
[song]
all will be well (gabe dixon band)
you could ask me how, but only time will tell
you've probably never heard of it, but for a short time Boardwalk and Baseball was on track to be the best theme park in orlando..
info here
and here
ok, you're thinking I'm crazy, I can tell.. but this was the late 80's.. IOA, and even Tower of Terror were still years away, not a coaster to be found in the city. It was ahead of it's time.
[song]
Freedom Park (Marah)
Someday someday
We're gonna look down
Upon this strip of cold concrete
And remember, remember, remember the sound

you need more inspiration to fit a little more into your day..
Barb has had me in total awe the last few weeks as she not only finds time to exercise every day, but also then scrapbooks, and blog's about exercising every day!!
chk out her layouts from the 21 day challenge, and also the very cool notebooks she's been working on.

do you break down and send a couple bucks home for the purchase of lottery tickets?
I really never got into the lotto crazy while I was still in Fla. I don't think I've ever bought a ticket, to be honest, though I do remember dad letting us scratch off a few games when they first came out..
I guess I figure I've already gotten all the money from the FlaLotto as I'm going to get, which I'm not complaining about, believe me.
but 82 million?? that might be worth taking a shot on..
(even though according to yesterday's post, it won't make me happy or successful ;-)
-
the foursome that played last saturday, of course, would not need this kind of help out on the course, but I still thought it was pretty neat...
-
I saw this post about success - how money fits into the equation, and what we think will bring us happines...
and my initial response was 'well, duh..'
but then I started thinking that maybe it doesn't hurt to be reminded every once in awhile...
True success will now be defined in terms of fulfillment.
If you are experiencing joy while doing what you are doing, you are successful.
If your activity is making a meaningful contribution to society and the environment, you are successful.
If you are reveling in a progressive collaboration, you are successful.
If your intelligence and creativity are being challenged and are growing, you are successful.
If you are giving people value, you are successful.
the only bad thing about totally awesome weekends?
first day back in reality.
emails to return, issues lists to go through.. maybe if I ignore everyone until lunch, they'll give up and think I'm still back in Florida
quick weekend recap:
swimming
running
citywalk with lil brother
pretending to play golf
watching brothers and dad actually play golf
magic game (way to wrap up the season, guys!)
church
grandparents
lunch with mom
shopping (I mean, "window shopping", dad!)
piling into the playroom to watch tv
leaving dad to sleep in the chair
serious hammock time
we packed in a lot!
just because it's tuesday, and I'm back in winston:
one of my top 10 all-time favorite songs

thursday, thursday...
craziness abounds...
not much time for in-depth blogging, so it's going to get a little random I'm afraid:
strange encounters of the errand-running kind today..
I think my house is now on an official nurses-walking-loop.. I ran home to pick up a package (thanks for the easter stuff, mom!), and wound up dodging grays anatomy extras all the way down the street
then, was thrown into total shock, when they were playing Phish at the juice shop..
[heavy things]
side note:
found some good Dead today..
[sugaree]
[scarlet begonias]
[sugar mag]
-
thx to a coworker, this song has been in my head the last hour.
at least it's a good one..
joker.
similarly:
come together.
not alike at all, except another excellent song:
bring it on home.

difficult decisions last night...
I've totally been getting hooked on 'how I met your mother', and it's been a nice lighthearted lead-in for the Monday Night Event that is... 24.
but last night, we were taking the Jack Bauer Hour out to the Celtic Cafe, (which means missing out on the live commentary, yes, but it's good to change things up every so often)
so what to do?? Miss the ending of one show, or the beginning of the next??
obviously, I had to chose Jack in this situation..
so if someone could fill me in on how the first show ended, I'd greatly appreciate it!! (Did they ever get around to making juice?? I need to know!!)
-
I had a very Chevy Chase-Fletch moment today in the elevator..
"Bruce, Alice; Alice, Dave; Dave, Bruce; Alice, Sue..."
how many times do you have to introduce 4 people in a small metal box??
It was all I could do to keep from cracking up....
-
so church is doing lunchtime devotions during holy week.
and I really didn't feel like going today,
but as usual, it turned out to be just what I needed..
('god music')
how great..
worthy
you are..
I wish I had been home for St Luke's annual Passion Sunday Extravaganza yesterday.
'nobody does palm sunday like st lukes'.. so true...
banners, paper doves, palm fronds, and they pick a different culture each year - my favorite was caribbean.. everybody wore hawaiian shirts!
as long as we're taking a different direction:
fanfare for the common man (US Marine Band)
God moving over the face of the waters (Moby)

this day will never end.
I know this
b/c it is only 11:00 and it feels like I've been at work 10 hours already
forgive my pessimism today, and the disjointed post -
I had a rough night, last night..
I was dead tired, was in bed not long after 10,
but for some reason wound up waking up all through the night
which is unusual for me - I usually sleep like a rock.
parents would probably say I was thinking too much..
it's funny the things that your parents will accuse you of, that your friends never would
(joking! about both - don't send me emails.)
-
week in recap:
best way to avoid work, game of the day
very enjoyable evening last night, hanging out with the warthogs...
it was a great way to officially kick off spring, and I hope we get to make many return trips (esp for Friday Fireworks nights!)
I am sooooo fullllll...
Friday lunch at Sweet Potatoes = fried green tomato blt with fried okra
yummmmm....
we don't go there often enough!
(best strategy: avoid lunchtime crowds and sit at the bar from the start.)
-
certain readers would like me to point out that the Master's is this weekend
here are links Urban Hunter found about the Augusta.. well, links.
revamped course
just a nice walk.. (some really great pictures)
all this talk of golf reminds me that I totally missed this year's Bay Hill, though
ah, the fond memories of the pro-am (remember the year dad had to wade through the water hazard??)
-
quote of the day:
"too busy??
I thought this was Winston - the land of boredom"
by far the coolest thing i've seen in a while... of the day
watch the video at life outtacontext
best misleading description of winston ever:
"..a hot, happening place full of large groups of preppyish men."
(from life in forsyth)

the game we love to loathe...
version 3.
post in comments once you get it.
NOTE:
Jason has threatened to post hints, so beware when chking the comments...
(but as it seems he hasn't been able to get very far, no spoilers yet)

ok, after fielding the myriad of unfounded complaints in my taste in music over the weekend (I still contend XM Deep Tracks is where it's at)
some music not up for debate:
scatter's posts on
..this study presents evidence that crucial policy prescriptions within the PRSC and PRGF may impair Uganda's ability to effectively realize its antipoverty and growth goals.- paper explaining why the poverty reduction plan hasn't been more effective there
Institutional barriers such as corruption and a lack of capacity within local government hinder efficient delivery and often result in services of very poor quality... [also] the national-level agenda for poverty alleviation does not match village-level needs or expectations.
smallholder farmers do not feel that PAF services provide them with the means to achieve their basic needs.
International and national policymakers must be willing to temper macro-level assumptions about how people get out of poverty with micro-or village-level realities.
In Uganda, this would entail investing in smallholder farmers to help them secure their basic needs so that they can become full participants in promoting economic growth.
there was something I was going to post about today...
what was it..
I had it, and then...
oh ,yeah, maybe it was
GO GATORS!!!!!!
CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP
I know some happy former residents of gatorville who were celebrating last night.
